CASAC - Certified Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor

Department: Behavioral Health
Location: Buffalo, NY

**Job Summary:**

The Certified Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) will provide assessments of client substance abuse disorders and use an eclectic approach of engagement and service delivery. The CASAC will also support the case planning staff in the implementation of case-specific goals of families, participate in a multi-method program, and maintain strong partnerships with families to promote safety and wellbeing.

**Responsibilities:**

- Provide case management, substance abuse counseling, and advocacy services.
- Collaborate as a member of an interdisciplinary treatment team to facilitate client recovery and rehabilitation processes.
- Refer and coordinate targeted interventions for families, contributing to a healthy therapeutic environment.
- Offer consultation to case planners on families dealing with substance abuse.
- Attend all Clinical Team meetings.
- Conduct intake assessments, clinical assessments, and individualized treatment planning.
- Coordinate client treatment with other community organizations as needed.
- Build professional therapeutic relationships and act as a positive role model.
- Conduct individual, group, and family therapy as necessary.
- Maintain accurate case records, update treatment plans, and document progress notes and psychosocial histories.
- Prepare required reports.
- Perform other assigned duties.

**Qualifications:**

- CASAC certification with a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) and at least five (5) years of experience working with adolescents/children and parents/caretakers with substance abuse issues.
- Proficient assessment skills.
- Experience in providing CASAC assessments to adults and adolescents.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Dedication to supporting children and families with a deep connection to the community.

**Preferred Qualifications:**

- CASAC certification with Master of Social Work (MSW).
- One (1) to two (2) years of experience working with adolescents/children and parents/caretakers dealing with substance abuse.

**Physical Demands:**

This role requires periods of sitting, standing, walking, bending, and stooping. The position may involve significant job-related stress.

**Pay Rate:** $21 - $26 per hour.
